The Empire's Might
“We stand on the threshold of a new beginning. In order to ensure our security and continuing stability, the Republic will be reorganized into the first Galactic Empire, for a safe and secure society, which I assure you will last for ten thousand years. An Empire that will continue to be ruled by this august body and a sovereign ruler chosen for life.”
-Emperor Sheev Palpatine at his Inaugral Imperial Address
“I have brought peace, freedom, justice, and security to my new Empire!”
“The Jedi Order is a lesson to us that we cannot permit any agency to become powerful enough to pose a threat to our designs, or the freedoms we enjoy. That is why it is essential we increase and centralize our military, both to preserve the peace and to protect the Empire against inevitable attempts at insurrection. To that end I have already ordered the production of new classes of capital ships and starfighters, suitable for command by nonclone officers and crew, who themselves will be the product of Imperial academies, made up of candidates drawn from existing star system flight schools. No less important, our present army of clone troopers is aging at an acclerating rate, and will need to be supplemented, gradually replaced, by new batches of clones.”
-Emperor Sheev Palpatine
“Half the budget is going to the production of these enormous Star Destroyers. He’s having new stormtroopers grown. And that’s not the worst of it. The Finance Committee can’t even account for some of the spending.”
-Senator Mon Mothma of Chandrila
During the first few years of the Empire, the galaxy saw the single largest military buildup in history. A permanent class of Moffs and regional governors was established to more efficiently govern individual sectors and regions of the Empire. Popular support for the policies of Palpatine’s administration was high. In addition, the Empire also pursued a reconquest of the Middle and Outer Rims of the Galaxy, which included getting rid of any and all remaining Separatist influence. By the time of the Battle of Kelrodo-Ai during the Western Reaches Operation in 17 BBY, the Empire restored order and rule of law in eight sectors, and liberated 95 worlds.
Vast resources and quintillions of credits are now dedicated to expand the Imperial Military and to fund new scientific developments. This military buildup will eventually result in the Imperial Navy fielding millions of starships, the Imperial Army being comprised of tens of trillions of soldiers, and the creation of a vast force of stormtroopers.
One hope the fledgling rebellion has is to slow down or cripple the Empires industrial capacity and prevent as many machines of war and symbols of oppression from being completed or delivered to the military. If the rebellion can gain access to some of those resources, all the better. The empire took control of Mygeeto shortly after the end of the Clone Wars and commenced strip mining operations of the Durasteel present in the planets crust. Mygeeto is just one of many industrial centres for the Galactic Empire however, but it is one link in a chain that can eventually be broken.
